The 2002 FIFA World Cup was hosted by Korea/Japan (31 May – 30 June 2002) with 32 teams. Champion: Brazil. The final was Brazil 2–0 Germany at International Stadium, Yokohama. Top scorer: Ronaldo (8).

The story of 2002

The first World Cup in Asia, co-hosted by Korea and Japan, and the first on two continents. Ronaldo's redemption — both goals in the final and 8 for the tournament — won Brazil a fifth title. Co-hosts South Korea stunned Italy and Spain on the way to a shock semifinal. Oliver Kahn became the only goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball.
