The story
England's World Cup-winning goalkeeper in 1966. His save from Pelé's downward header at Mexico 1970 — "the save of the century" — is widely cited as the greatest goalkeeper save ever made. He lost his right eye in a 1972 car accident at the peak of his career, ending his top-flight playing days.
