The story
The first World Cup in Asia, co-hosted by Korea and Japan, and the first on two continents. Ronaldo's redemption — both goals in the final and 8 for the tournament — won Brazil a fifth title. Co-hosts South Korea stunned Italy and Spain on the way to a shock semifinal. Oliver Kahn became the only goalkeeper to win the Golden Ball.
