The story
The Maracanazo. Brazil needed only a draw at home in the deciding match of the four-team final group, before what was then the largest crowd ever to watch a football match. Schiaffino equalised, then Alcides Ghiggia scored the winner with 11 minutes left. Uruguay's second World Cup, Brazil's most painful sporting day. Goalkeeper Moacir Barbosa was haunted by the loss for the rest of his life. The match is still cited as the most famous upset in football history.
