The story

Spain's 2010 win in South Africa is the only World Cup title in the country's history — but it came as part of a unique three-tournament dynasty (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010, Euro 2012) that no other nation has matched. Andrés Iniesta scored the only goal of the final against the Netherlands in extra time. The squad — Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Casillas, Ramos, Puyol, Villa — was the pinnacle of the tiki-taka era. Spain went 116 minutes of the final without conceding a goal. The country's WC story is otherwise full of quarterfinal heartbreaks; the 2026 cycle features a new generation led by Pedri and 16-year-old Lamine Yamal.
