The story
The Azteca is the only stadium to host two World Cup finals: 1970 (Brazil 4-1 Italy — Pelé's farewell title) and 1986 (Argentina 3-2 West Germany — Maradona's tournament). It also hosted Maradona's "Hand of God" and "Goal of the Century" in the same 1986 quarterfinal against England. In 2026 it became the first stadium to host matches at THREE different World Cups, opening the tournament.
